On Instagram, the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” singer praised the indie-rock band’s performance. She article performance footage on Instagram Story and commented on BBC Radio 1’s Reel with a joyful “omg.
The 1997 country-pop song Shania Twain’s Come On Over became an indie-folk ballad by Boy Genius. While the Grammy-nominated song’s original version speeds up, the trio’s cover is subdued and quiet, mirroring its iconic chorus with harmonies.
Bridgers, 29, sang the first few verses, Dacus, 28, the second, and Baker, 28, finished the song. With just the Punisher singer on guitar and Baker on mandolin, their beautiful fingerpicking raised their tender, loving vocals and made the song feel like it could have fit on their debut album, the record.
Many younger stars are inspired by Twain. Many young artists, like Taylor Swift, Kelsea Ballerini, and Harry Styles, have cited her as an inspiration.
She’s not the only country artist the “Emily I’m Sorry Band” has covered. For KEXP, the band covered The Chicks’ 1999 hit “Cowboy Take Me Away” after their 2018 self-titled debut EP.
They also covered “The Parting Glass,” a popular Irish and Scottish song, for charity in honor of Sinéad O’Connor. Bridgers collaborated with O’Connor’s estate to donate all earnings from the track’s Christmas single to the Aisling Project, a Dublin nonprofit that provides after-school intervention to underprivileged youngsters.
This year marks a milestone for alternative hitmakers. After releasing their full-length debut to critical acclaim, “Me & My Dog” got their first Grammy nominations. The band is up for album of the year, best alternative album, record of the year, best rock performance, best rock song, and best alternative music performance for “Not Strong Enough” and “Cool About It.”
Bridgers joins SZA as one of the most nominated stars at the award presentation with her work on Boy Genius and SOS. The 34-year-old “Kill Bill” singer has nine, while the “Motion Sickness” artist has seven.

Shania Twain (born August 28, 1965, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada) was a mid-1990s crossover performer known for her country-pop sound.
She adopted her stepfather’s surname, Jerry Twain, early on. She developed an extraordinary singing voice after the family relocated north to Timmins, Ontario, and by age eight was performing in bars to supplement her parents’ sporadic income. In high school, she sang in Longshot, a Top 40 cover band. At 21, she came to Toronto and worked during the day and sang in bars at night. Her parents died in a car accident less than a year later, so she went home to raise her sister and two brothers.
Producer Norro Wilson took Twain to Nashville, Tennessee, to make her first album in 1991 after she sang in clubs. She became Shania Twain, meaning “I’m on my way,” after her stepfather’s Ojibwa roots. Her debut album, Shania Twain, sold barely 100,000 copies, but Robert John (“Mutt”) Lange, a successful producer for Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, and Michael Bolton, noticed her brilliance. Twain and Lange married in 1993 after writing music together. The Woman in Me, her second album, came two years later. Sales exceeded 18 million copies and earned it a Grammy for Country Album of the Year.
Shania Twain’s third album, Come On Over (1997), topped the country and pop charts, and she made her first North American tour the following year. Shania Twain became the best-selling female country musician and the first female recording artist in any genre to have two straight albums sold over 10 million copies by 1999.
