Madonna’s achieved a new top 10 in the UK this week. Her song “Popular,” which features Playboy Carti and is lead by The Weeknd, climbs the charts of the nation’s most-listened-to songs, making its debut in the top tier. “Popular” rises to No. 10 from No. 14, where it had dropped to the final frame.
According to the Official Charts Company, Madonna’s new single “Popular” is her first to reach the top 10 in the country in fifteen years. She didn’t shown up inside the top tier of the rankings since 2009. Her single “Celebration” reached No. 3 that year.
Over her career, Madonna has now recorded 64 top 10 hits in total. She now has more top 10 hits in UK history than any other female musician as “Popular” climbs to No. 10.
Coincidentally, 40 years after Madonna made her debut in the area, “Popular” makes it into the top 10. With “Holiday,” she achieved her first UK hit back in 1984. It reached number six. That year, she would go on to win twice as many races as before when “Like a Virgin” debuted and stalled at No. 3.
How Madonna Became “Madge”
Gabriel’s biography explains Madonna’s “Madge” nickname. After moving to London in 2000 to work on her music record, her British admirers enjoyed how she acted more like a normal person than a Hollywood star. Instead of Madonna, she was given the name “Madge” to fit in.
A Trained Ballerina

Falling Out With Her Sibling
Madonna’s younger brother Christopher Ciccone was her backup dancer and backstage dresser for years. As Madonna prepared to marry Guy Ritchie, tensions rose, and they split.
Ciccone’s book charged Ritchie with homophobia. Ritchie replied to The Guardian in 2008, “You’d be hard pushed to be a homophobe and marry Madonna.”
Her Sean Penn Romance
Madonna’s high-profile romance with Sean Penn struggled. Paparazzi trailed them everywhere during their 1985–1989 marriage, and tabloids called them the “Poison Penns”.
A 1989 rumor of a violent event in the former couple’s house disturbed Madonna. In 2015, the pop artist said, “Sean has never struck me, ‘tied me up’ or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false.”
She Loves Movies and Works Behind the Camera
Given that she was married to Ritchie, a legendary director who made Snatch, The Gentlemen, and Sherlock Holmes, Madonna understands how to find a good film and sometimes stars in it.
She appeared in 1999 and 1996 films such as A League of Their Own and Evita. The 2011 war drama W.E. chronicles the “scandalous” romance between Britain’s King Edward VIII and American socialite Wallis Simpson, known as Meghan Markle of her day.

“As Though in Prayer” Slip Dress
One of Madonna’s most well-known songs is “Like a Prayer.” However, the music video for the song caused controversy when it initially came out because of its overtly religious themes and unabashed sensuality, stunning many conservative Americans. It was nevertheless well-liked.
Madonna explored themes of sex, religion, and race in the music video while sporting a crucifix pendant and a skimpy black slip dress. The provocative slip dress, which was discovered at the Western Costume Company in Los Angeles, was the star of a film that was outlawed in Italy and denounced by the Vatican.
